Welcome To The Food Locker!
With rising tuition costs and an economy in recession, student poverty is on the rise. Schools all over Ontario and Canada have responded by creating food banks on campuses to help cushion the financial burden on students. Currently, there are over 50 colleges and universities in Canada that have on-site food banks accessible to their students. It is the purpose of this group to do the same thing by offering non-perishable canned goods to any student in need.
How It Works
If you’re in financially struggling and hunger is effecting your studies...
- Fill out the Online Application above each time you apply for food.
- Get a return email with a locker number somewhere in the school and a locker combination
- Then go to the locker within 48 hours and pick up your food.
This service is provided by the generosity of students and staff and other concerned members of the community.
Feed Your Body, Feed Your Mind
- Students can use the Food Locker once in a calendar month.
- Food should be picked up within 48 hours of receiving a response email after which the food will be returned to storage.
- Dry or canned food will be provided that is sufficient for one person for one week.
- No perishable items are included so it is recommended you still supply yourself with dairy and meat products for balanced nutrition.
- You must be a Georgian College student with a valid student number to use this service.
- Include if you have any allergies or dietary requirements and we will attempt to accommodate you (ex: I’m allergic to peanuts, I can’t eat wheat)
- No student names are required in the application. Student numbers are kept confidentially on file to monitor that students are not using the bank more than once a month.
- If a student requires more food assistance, they can contact the Barrie Food Bank at barriefoodbank.org or (705)725-1818
